What is hypocrisy

Wa Ba'd:

"And when it is said unto them: Make not mischief
in the earth, they say, we are peace-makers only.
Are they not indeed the mischief makers?"
[Surah Al-Baqara verses 11 and 12].

O Ummatul Muslimeen! What is hypocrisy? Hypocrisy is without any question of a doubt a most detestable and vile quality that a human being can possess. It is in the nature of a human being to accept and strive to attain happiness, contentment and freedom. In so doing a human being can upgrade himself or herself to the highest degree of dignity. However, when a human being becomes polluted with lying, violation of promises and breaking agreements, hypocrisy finds itself a wide arena and is then ready to penetrate such polluted natures. Hypocrisy advances in these circumstances until it eventually becomes an acute disease for Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala informs us in verse 1 of Surah Al-Munafiqun:

We ask Allah that He must strengthen our Islam and guide us in what we do and provide support for us, and that this Jumu’ah must be for us an important step in our development as Muslims. We ask that all the things we do and all the different kinds of ibadat must be steps towards Him.  All our activities as human beings must be for Him and must be towards Him.  That’s the only way that we can get our Islam right. That is not in fact what I want to talk to you about today.

On a previous occasion I had told you:

(a)The story of Alqamah, the Companion, who was unable to say لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُوْلُ اللهِ (La ilaha illallah Muhammadur rasulullah: there is no god other than Allah. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah) on his death bed because he had preferred his wife above his mother. He was only able to say these words once his mother forgave him.

Mothering is not something you learn, it is something you do. It is at once the single most necessary job as well as the one in which you are completely alone. It is not an occupation you apply for, in fact, if it were, it would attract few applicants. From the moment your child is born, he steals not only your heart, he steals your life. From the moment of conception the child literally invades your space, and you are indentured for life. The Dictionary defines a mother as "a female who has borne offspring," but surely there must be more to it than just giving birth. The dictionary also says: "to give birth to,to watch over, nourish and protect".

Role of Muslim Women in Contemporary Society

The role of women in society is neither new nor is it fully settled. Throughout the corridor of time a myriad of fallacies and misconceptions have surrounded the sensitive issue of women's role in society. This article, therefore, attempts to shed new light on this issue which has been a bone of contention for it considerable time. The theme of the article is to highlight the major causes of dissension between what Islam actually, prescribes for women and how this has been distorted. The importance of women in the social, economic, political, spiritual as well as academic perspective will be discussed. An analytical approach has been adopted using the Qur'an and Prophetic traditions as a basis. Extensive use has been made of the example of the wives of the Prophet (SAW) - whose pioneering efforts and great intellectual calibre serve as a beacon for women throughout the world.

Often the theme of women is dealt with in a trite, cliched, superficial and stereotypical manner. The attitude with which the issue is approached is often chauvinistic, patronising, apologetic or downright condescending. Therefore, unfortunately, nately, the
