Not everyone has the opportunity to physically or directly assist our brothers and sisters in Palestine that are suffering through a horror much like our own apartheid.

This is why Zaytoun CIC is bringing the chance to offer assistance right to SA's doorstep through it's sister organization Zaytoun SA.

Zaytoun, the company that launched the world's first Fairtrade olive oil, is now giving SA citizens the chance to access Palestinian Fairtrade produce.

We are a Fair Trade company and a member of WFTO. In 2009 we launched the world’s first ever Fairtrade olive oil, a tribute to the hard work of the Palestinian producers and processors with whom we work.

Palestine is the home of the olive tree, with some of the oldest olive groves in the world, dating as far back as 1500 to 2000 years. The olive trees produce fruit that supports over half the population and can be seen dominating the agricultural landscape.

We bring in not only oil but dates, olives & za’atar (This is an everyday staple in the Middle East; a herb mix of wild thyme, toasted sesame and sumac. It is a zesty seasoning, delicious with olive oil on fresh bread, on tomato salads or rubbed onto chicken before roasting.)

All products, that we are confident the SA community will be eager to purchase.
The chance to access double value in the form of outstanding products and providing support to the Palestinian community can be missed by none.

Every action of any magnitude makes the biggest difference in the lives of the oppressed Palestinians. Purchasing products that will assist Palestinian farmers is then a form of resisting the Israeli occupation. Palestine needs a viable economy to survive and supporting their farmers is a valuable chance for the SA community to contribute to this viability.

We also insist on packaging and labelling being done in Palestine to create further employment options.

Purchasing Zaytoun products means you can help empower oppressed and disadvantaged Palestinian farming communities through a sustainable initiative that works through trade and not aid. Helping a community to help themselves couldn't be more evident than through this initiative.

For those that can and want to go a step further, Zaytoun is looking for passionate individuals who are pained by the injustices being done in Palestine to join us as distributors nationwide.

About Zaytoun:

Zaytoun CIC was founded in 2004 following work with Palestinian farmers who had lost their olive oil export markets since the intifada.

Zaytoun SA was formed in 2012, initially as an individual’s attempt make a meaningful contribution to the people of Palestine by developing Fair Trade links between South Africa and Palestine. We aim to make a difference in the quality of lives of marginalised farming communities in Palestine - in most cases they have been the unfair victims of Israeli occupation and oppression where land has been stolen from them, olive and date trees destroyed and access to water and even their own farms restricted by the building of the Illegal Israeli Wall, Settlements and Checkpoints.

We are committed to working hard to establish a sustained place for Palestinian Fairly Traded Produce in the South African market place and homes. Following months of planning, preparation, liaising and negotiating we are pleased to announce the launch of Zaytoun Palestinian products in South Africa in July 2012.

Zaytoun SA to aims to visit Palestine annually to meet the farmers and cooperatives involved. The point of these meetings will be to ensure that the quality of products is paired with optimal pricing to ensure a win-win situation for both the struggling farmers and Zaytoun consumers.

Zaytoun is a non-profit organisation. All proceeds are re-invested into socio-economic projects targeted at the communities we deal with in Palestine. We are committed to supporting Palestinians in their non-violent resistance against the Illegal Israeli Occupation and to principles of peace and justice for all.

Zaytoun SA values the support it has received from Zaytoun CIC (Palestine and UK), Palestinian farming communities, co-operatives, suppliers and local SA communities to make this project a reality and we look forward to a prosperous future ahead and further developing these relationships and support structures.
