Is it permissible for muslims to renew their vows? 8 Years ago Karma: 0
In the context of the high divorce rate amongst Muslims, is it permissible for muslim couples to “renew their vows”. This may take the form of a thirk, Gatmal Quran, etc, and not necessarily a re-enactment of the nikah.

Unlike other religions, Nikaah in Islam is not a sacrament. Nikaah is a contract between the contracting parties in the presence of witnesses. Normally, when couples seek to renew their vows, they generally want a re-solemnization or a ceremony of some sorts. In short, the concept of “renewal of vows” is not possible. However, people may invite who ever they want and have a waleemah (reception) for any reason whatsoever, and they may read poems, re-declare their love for each other and give sadaqaat. Bringing people together must always be encouraged. A word of caution though, we should not embark on such an event simply to follow the trend of other religious persuasions, as our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said; “Man tashab-baha biqaumin fa hoewa minhum”, meaning “Whosoever follows (the traditions) of other peoples (non-Muslims) then he is of them.” Wallaahu a’lam

"Renewing Vows" is a non-Muslim concept and one should steer clear from it, irrespective of the intention, it has no basis in Islaam. When the road gets rough, we ask Allaah for help. When the help comes, we praise Him and ask Him: "Rabbanaa hab lanaa min azwaajina wa thurriyyatinaa qurrata a'yun..." Our Lord, grant us partners and offspring that are the coolness of our eyes(that make us happy even by just looking at them.)
