Gajj means pilgrimage to Mecca.

Gajj is compulsory on each capable Muslim once in his/her life.

Pilgrimage comes in two forms:

The greater pilgrimage known as Gajj and takes place in the twelfth lunar month.

The lesser pilgrimage, known as Umrah, can take place during the other 11 months of the year. This is regarded as a pious undertaking, but does not fulfill the believer's requirement to make the pilgrimage - Gajj.

There are a number of important rituals associated exclusively with the pilgrimage.
