CFRF for FAMILY HISTORY & COMMUNITY HERITAGE - a registered Heritage NGO [NPO No. 040-846] which is a Cape Flats-based network of amateur family historians and community heritage activists seeking to investigate their ancestral roots from across the four corners of the trade winds :
1] the Malay connection -  Indonesia / the former Dutch East Indies/ Malay Archipelago/Java / Makassar;
2] the Indian connection - the Bengali / Malabar / Ceylon coastal belt;
3] the Malagassy connnection - the Macaserene Islands (i.e. Madagascar, Reunion,etc) ; and
4] the African connection - the East African coastal belt (including Mocambique, Zanzibar, Comores, etc).

At the same time, the CFRF aims to provide a social networking platform for amateur family history investigators searching for their slave roots across the UNESCO Trans Indian Ocean trade routes. Furthermore, the CFRF serves as a peer support group for amateur genealogists and community-focussed heritage activists grappling with unique family slave roots challenges in tracing of the correct sources of the best possible archival documentation at the various repositories i.e. Western Cape Archives Services, Office of the Master of the Supreme Court, etc.

CFRF envisions that each family or clan will appoint their own FAMILY HISTORY CHAMPION per One Surname  branch, as a prospectivel CFRF member,  in tracing their ancestral roots and taking ownership of their own 'family history' traditions or unique 'ancestral roots' story. We may not have been fortunate EYE-WITNESSES to the PAST (of a few generations ago), but we all are privileged EARWITNESSES of YESTERYEAR (relating / sharing the stories heard at the knees of grandparents). Therefore, the power of oral history / family traditions within households of the slave descendant communities on the Cape Flats, including Cape Muslim families who can trace their ancestral roots directly to the 'Orang Cayeng' Political Exiles from South East Asia, as well as those with ancestral ties to the Kokani / Kokni-speaking villages on the Kokan west coast of the Indo-Pak sub continent of British India ... is an invaluable social asset / social capital amongst descendants with a collection of strong family traditions which needs to be recorded via the methodology of genealogy interview techniques in order to be preserved as a rich written legacy for the next generations within 'extended family' circles.

The CFRF successfully lobbied the Western Cape Archives Services whereby the Cape Archives at 72 Roeland Street, Cape Town  [opposite Herold Cressy High School / Fruit & Veggies] have extended their public enquiry hours to the 1st Saturday of each calendar month.

The CFRF can arrange for special group tours to the Cape Archives / WCAS upon request depending on the numbers and availability of the CFRF's own Principal Archival Advisor/s.
